Playgrounds Need Creative and Unique Ideas

June 17, 2010

The great thing about playgrounds is that they are set up to succeed from the start. What child wouldn’t want to take a slide ride or shoot back and forth on a swing set? This may be why designing and building playgrounds is so fun, they are just so well received by the community and children they serve. However, it is also important that they continue to be unique and creative so that the individual needs of the community are met and so that a place has a distinctive site to call their own. Here at Miracle Playsystems we really try to take each project and mold our designs around exactly what the client wants. We come up with many project specific ideas so that each project is unique and creative.

So what kinds of ideas are unique and creative? Well, color schemes should be designed to fit in the sit essence of a place. Blues and greens should be played with to form nature scenes and reds and yellow should combine to form a truly unforgettable site. Structures should be built to serve multiple purposes. For instance shade structures can be designed into a pirate ship theme to form the sails of the site. Actions such as this keep playgrounds interesting and functional as well. Of course you want to be as unique as possible, but the challenge is getting there.

To be truly unique you can’t just try to be unique. You have to fit the exact specifications of your project and the uniqueness with develop itself. Each client’s needs will be different on some level so by tailoring each design to those needs your design will be rather creative and individual, plus functional and appealing. Playgrounds need creative and unique ideas to stay interesting, but also so they fit the needs of a community, client, and area. And you know a playground is going to be fun!

Bright Colors mean Noticeable Details

January 7, 2010

Notice Anything?

Details can make all the difference in playground design. Not only will they tie up loose ends and give the finishing touches to themes, but they will also play key roles in making a playground more effective and entertaining. What’s more, a single detail, such as a steering wheel, can change an average deck into a race car cockpit or a space ship bridge for a child. However, many times these details go unnoticed… combat this problem by turning up the color volume.

Bright yellows and reds do the job.

Perhaps the simplest way to make your playground’s details, and the playground itself, more noticeable is to enhance its color scheme so that people have no choice but to look. If a steering wheel is bright yellow, then of course it is going to be seen. If another key feature is fire engine red, then it will surely catch the eye of visitors. There is no trick here; the brighter the better. Contact Miracle Playsystems for the most colorful products…

Bright details make the difference.

What is better than a flower in the middle of summer? A bright yellow, 12 foot tall flower that shoots out cold water! Will your surrounding community notice this creatively outstanding feature? You bet. The will notice its form, and its fluid shape, but most of all, before anything else, they will notice its awesome dandelion color—the hottest of yellows! Attract visitors and clients to your design through details that exude themselves through unavoidable, eye-catching, highly aesthetic color. Visit Miracle Playsystems for more details.

Slide Down the Color Spectrum

December 29, 2009

Bright colors are attractive.

Colors can be so boring. Well, not at Miracle. Choose the features you want in the colors that will impress your visitors and clients the most. Will it be the bright yellow or orange that gets the job done? Is it that hot purple that everyone will remember? What about the impact of deep blues, eye-catching greens, and reds that literally pop out at you? Don’t be the one who chooses to go with a downer color scheme; be the one who takes a playground design to the next level with the best, most memorable colors available.

Choose colors everyone likes.

Slide down the entire color spectrum when designing a playground’s theme. It’s a playground after all… so have fun with every aspect of it, including the color scheme. Match the colors to the site’s essence or go completely the other way and just add in the brightest colors you can think of. Stay in line with a red, orange, and yellow combination or go nuts with purple, green, and yellow. Get it done with blue, green, and brown, or have fun with yellow, blue, and red. Whatever your site goal is, use colors that will impress all of those who lay eyes upon it.

Colors on large surface areas should be especially appealing.

Use color techniques that will boost your site’s attractiveness as well. For instance, ensure visitors can spot your site from afar by making slides and decks bright colors. Also, add in a shade structure that has a noticeable, darker color like blue or green. Small tricks like this will increase the effectiveness of your site in its design stages and when its in use by the public. Remember to use colors that add another interesting aspect to your site and you can’t go wrong…

The Right Color Scheme will Add Attractiveness to Your Site

Bright colors stand out and work well.

Bright colors stand out and work well.

The colors of a playground are identifiable and can be broken down on a few levels. First, how bright the colors are will determine how noticeable the site is from a distance. Second, how well the color scheme fits into the surrounding area will contribute to the site’s fluidity and essence. Lastly, the color scheme itself needs to work well within itself so that they don’t clash with each other, never mind the surrounding area. If a design can succeed at all these levels, the colors of a playground will no doubt be an added attraction to the site… and not a hindrance.

On a sunny day, colors will... well, show their true colors.

On a sunny day, colors will... well, show their true colors.

Bright colors are more noticeable that dull colors. Obvious as this seems, it is important to remember this point during the design stages of a playground because once the parts are ordered and construction begins, although it is possible to still get replacements, valuable time will be lost in switching out colors. Bright colors are ones like fire-engine red, glossy blue, and hot green. With these colors, your site will be as conspicuous as gold.

Together, bright colors mixed in with a great scheme will impress most every visitor.

A site’s color scheme should match the area around it. If the site is next to a forested area, perhaps blues, greens, and browns would be best—of course add in some bright oranges or yellows on some key features. In a fielded area, maybe a red, orange, and yellow site would be best—with some blue shade structures for brightness.

The color scheme of a playground is tremendously important in that if it works, great, but if it doesn’t, it is quite noticeable. Be sure to know your colors are the ones you want and match each other before you order. At Miracle, we will make sure of this for you. When dealing with colors, keep the brightness, the scheme, and the surrounding area in mind.

New Designs and Innovations Push Shade into High Supply

August 4, 2009

With summer in full force now, time outside is to be especially appreciated. However much you appreciate the perks of the outdoors though, you must also plan accordingly to decrease the dangers of the sun’s harmful rays. The most obvious relief methods are among the most helpful. Wearing sunscreen or a hat and taking shade breaks are always necessary when dealing with high temperatures. Also, wearing loose, covering clothing with tightly woven fabrics will prevent burns as Sun Damage Clinics’ website says. Of course, children are not always so aware of these measures so it’s crucial that adults look after their wellbeing. In terms of playgrounds, there are many things a designer can implement straight into a sight’s production to increase protection from the sun.

Shade Structures are Vital to Playground Safety

Many styles of shade accessories are available from Sun Ports. These come in an almost endless array of colors and shapes. Furthermore, specific models are better suited for different tasks, such as the Life Guard series which caters to the needs of those red clad guardians and also poolside sunbathers. For those larger areas, including covering the entire playground, the series named Super Span will best suffice. If something entirely original is desired, Custom Designs always make for a fantastic choice. This option allows for even the most creative ideas.

Back to the colors and shapes, ready to go are Pyramids, Octagons, Pentagons, and the Coolbrella design, among a vast variety of others, in shades of blue, yellow, red, green, and most any other color one can dream up. Again, if the existing styles don’t quite do the trick, custom designs can be drawn up. No matter which way your way is, sun protection is a necessity in today’s increasingly hot climate. It’s a fact that the ozone isn’t what it used to be, so be sure to include a shade structure in your next playground design, especially if the site is in a particularly scorching area.

Seasonality in California Playgrounds

Using Hot Colors, Playing Off the Summer at Parkside Aquatic Park

Using Hot Colors, Playing Off the Summer at Parkside Aquatic Park

Playgrounds in California are different than in many other places.  The seasons are less extreme here so visitors can use playscape facilities throughout the year—almost every day save the really rainy ones.  For this reason, landscape architects and other playground designers may have a hard time incorporating seasonal designs into playscape structures, i.e. ones that specifically highlight the pinnacle of a changing season.  An example of this would be using flowing, circular forms and colors like dark browns for support poles and bright yellows, oranges, and reds for decks and features to play off the fall season.  Or, hard angles and colored features like white slides and climbers connected to dark blue decks to give a sense of winter.  In California however, the only really tangible season, besides way up in the Sierra Nevada range, is summer… well and the rain.

To incorporate the summer into design is perhaps the easiest in playgrounds because playgrounds themselves naturally radiate the hot season through vibrantly colored features and also the fun that can be had on them.  But, because the heat is always looming, shade structures should be utilized to provide safety from the scorching sun.  Shade structures not only diminish harmful rays, some are also partially transparent so the brighter the day, the richer the color of the structure is.  Another important factor in designing for the summer is the integration of site amenities such as tree guards, bike racks, benches, and picnic tables.

Tree guards will protect valuable immature trees from wind damage on those more blustery days.  Having trees around also adds to the available shade and advances the sense of summer through the presence of organic life.  Bike racks encourage visitors to leave the car at home, but also, they are practical because during the summer many more people ride bikes anyways.  Benches and picnic tables are extremely beneficial to a playground or parks design because they provide a place for people to gather easily and they also have the function of offering a resting spot for children who have been running around on the playground all day.  Summer in California is long and hot and designing for this kind of season is important for playground designers and landscape architects.
